Representing Temporal Patterns in Computer-Interpretable Clinical Guidelines

چکیده
Computer-interpretable Guidelines (CIGs) as machine-readable versions of clinical protocols have to provide appropriate constructs for the representation of different aspects of medical knowledge, namely administrative information, workflows of procedures, clinical constraints and temporal constraints. This work focuses on the latter, by aiming to develop a comprehensive representation of temporal constraints for machine readable formats of clinical protocols and provide a proper execution engine that deals with different time patterns and constraints placed on them. A model for the representation of time is presented for the CompGuide ontology in Ontology Web language (OWL) along with a comparison with the available formalisms in this field. 1998 ACM Subject Classification I.2.4 Knowledge Representation Formalisms and Methods, J.3 Life and Medical Sciences – Medical Information Systems

A Pattern-based Analysis of Clinical Computer-Interpretable Guideline Modelling Languages
In this paper we evaluate clinical guidelines modelling languages using the Workflow Patterns as an analysis framework. The analysis provided for clinical guidelines aims at an unbiased and vendor-independent survey of the expressive power of some modelling languages for representing clinical guidelines. The results from the survey could be used for the selection of a specification for represen...
متن کاملIdentifying Treatment Activities for Modelling Computer-Interpretable Clinical Practice Guidelines
Clinical practice guidelines are important instruments to support clinical care. In this work we analysed how activities are formulated in these documents and we tried to represent the activities using patterns based on semantic relations. For this we used the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) and in particular its Semantic Network. Out of it we generated a collection of semantic patterns ...
متن کاملGeneralizing the Detection of Internal and External Interactions in Clinical Guidelines
This paper presents a method for formally representing Computer-Interpretable Guidelines to deal with multimorbidity. Although some approaches for merging guidelines exist, improvements are still required for combining several sources of information and coping with possibly conflicting pieces of evidence coming from clinical studies. Our main contribution is twofold: (i) we provide general mode...
متن کاملToward an adaptive computer-interpretable clinical guideline for personalization of treatments
Computer-Interpretable Clinical Guidelines (CIGs) are Clinical Guidelines expressed with computer-interpretable languages. This paper presents the iCareflow framework, which proposes to constraint CIGs with external data in order to personalize medical treatment plans.
متن کاملComputer-interpretable clinical guidelines: A methodological review
Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) aim to improve the quality of care, reduce unjustified practice variations and reduce healthcare costs. In order for them to be effective, clinical guidelines need to be integrated with the care flow and provide patient-specific advice when and where needed. Hence, their formalization as computer-interpretable guidelines (CIGs) makes it possible to develop CI...
